& SHIT!

I must be Skippy’s* shit list. I have been under intense scrutiny this week. I’ve had my integrity questioned on couple occasions in the last 7 days. I was given a final notice for a first infraction of its kind, for something that is , in part, actually about become policy. I told my boss the ‘response was excessive.’ He looked at me blankly and repeated it to himself. “Basically it means, ‘You’re overreacting,’” I said.

Why is it every time I consider removing my goatee, the “sinister” affectation appeals to me?

Politics & Patriotism

Spoken by Simon Wilder in “With Honors” (1994)

[Simon] ..The genius of the Constitution is that it can always be changed.

The genius of the Constitution is that it makes no permanent rule other than its faith in the wisdom of ordinary people to govern themselves.

[Mr. Pitkannan] Faith in the wisdom of The People is exactly what makes the Constitution incomplete and crude.

[Simon] Crude? No sir. Our founding parents were pompous, middle-middle aged white farmers, but they were also great men. Because they knew one thing that all great men should know; that they didn’t know everything.

They knew they were going to make mistakes, but they made sure to leave a way to correct them. They didn’t think of themselves as leaders. They wanted a government of citizens, not royalty, a government of listeners, not lecturers. A government that could change, not stand still. The President isn’t an elected king, no matter how many bombs he can drop. Because the “crude” Constitution doesn’t trust him. He’s a servant of The People. He’s a bum. Okay Mr. Pitkannan? He’s just a bum, and the only bliss he’s searching for is freedom and justice.

I swear… we are putting the wrong people in Office.

bugger…

Thought I was closing today.

Left my phone muted from the shift the day before. My co-workers don’t need to know every time I get a text, an email, or a call.

Didn’t know about the three calls and resulting voice mails.

Each progressively more panicked.

Alright, alright, I was supposed to open today…

And another manager was in jail on a misdemeanor.

So… the least equipped to handle a situation out of the ordinary had to come in on her day off.

She was in the building only three hours and that was long enough to exacerbate the situation.

I got to work at 11am, 3 hours late. The manager who was scheduled to close arrived at 5pm, 4 hours late. I stayed until closing, and I am actually scheduled to close tomorrow night.

All this would have been enough…

If not for the fact that a boardmember’s wife showed up sometime after 10 am and we were still closed. We open at 9. Naturally she told her husband. Naturally he made some calls of his own. I don’t know how many degrees are involved, but eventually Skippy* got wind of it.

So far the only fallout has been Sweaty** calling the misdemeanor manager and taking her to task for… telling the other managers she was in jail… What was she going to do? “I can’t come in until 5pm ’cause I have a ‘thing’?”

I’m sure my turn is coming. I can handle Sweaty**, what bothers me now is Skippy*. I was off his shit list, and this has has doubtless put me back on it. On his list despite the fact that assistant managers from two stores and a merchandising manager from a third have all called me this week, looking for assistance in the absence of their store managers.

Sweaty returned tonight from the week-long store manager’s conference in Dallas. He is supposed to be off tomorrow, but I would be a small fortune he will show up at the store tomorrow. I would be thrilled if he can hold his wad until his Friday shift. I’m off on Friday.

**Sweaty: My new Store Manager. The man sweats so much its unnatural.

Please, Please, Please, Please, Please, Please, Ple…

According to ZDNet.de, Intel Germany CEO Hannes Schwaderer confirmed that Apple would be using the Intel Atom processor in a future version of the iPhone. The new model will reportedly be a larger model with a larger display, correlating with circulating rumors about a mini-tablet (720×480) device rumored to be coming from Apple. English translation:

As part of an Intel event for the 40th birthday of the semiconductor company at Munich’s BMW World, Germany managing director Hannes Schwaderer confirmed today what has long been a rumor on the Internet: namely, that there is an iPhone with Intel’s new Atom chip. The device is slightly larger than the current version, Schwaderer said. That is not, however, because of the Intel chip, but because of the larger display used in the new iPhone.
He goes on to say that an upgraded version of the current form factor of iPhone would also exist as a 3G-model.

While Schwaderer calls the larger device a “version of the iPhone”, it seems clear that it refers to the rumored mini-tablet device. Some rumors have suggested that it would be introduced at WWDC.

Oh Dear Lord, Please!

Aw nuts…  Apple denied rumors of an Intel Atom based tablet device.  More waiting then.
