Adventures in Retail Hell, Life

so near and yet sofa

ThinkGeek is hiring for a custom product specialist.

Sadly it based in Fairfax Virginia. Curses.

Its alright. I know about as much Cantonese or Mandarin as I do Pearl.

Adventures in Retail Hell

it will all end in tears

I figured I would write tomorrows entry now, as I really doubt I will feel like it tomorrow.

Skippy* will arrive bright and early. Regardless whatever peppy and non confrontational label is applied to it, he his there to assess the store…. I am so screwed.

I have busted my ass for three months. He will come to the store with a set of preconceptions and unreasonable expectations, and nothing he sees will change his mind.

He won’t give any consideration to my personal investments. He will not alter his demands from those applied to managers who actually live in the same city as their stores, who are actually allowed to go home after work, who are actually paid a store manager’s pay rate.

Here goes nothing…

Adventures in Retail Hell, Everything, Life

groan..

wrapping up my first 24 hour day since I graduated college. I seem to remember doing that for fun…

I have to keep telling myself that I’ve reduced my debt by almost half. That I’ve bought excellent tools and supplies for a hobby i haven’t actually had the opportunity to start yet. That I see my family regularly if not frequently. I have a beautiful car that I love. and that I have the means to follow most of my artistic impulses.

Things change. They always do.

Adventures in Retail Hell

the sound of inevitability

Mariachis… why did it have to be Mariachis?

My hotel door faces the expansive lobby from the second floor.

Saturday night there was a band. Tonight it’s Mariachis.

And I haven’t had a Dr. Pepper in two days…

*sniff*

Adventures in Retail Hell

WOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!

I’ve been flying back and forth between El Paso and San Antonio since December 16th. Yup, almost 4 months. In 8 weeks… I’m free.

That’s roughly 4 more laps, including the one I’m running right now. In two months I get to live and work in the same city.

…. In two months I might get a freaking vacation!

And let’s not forget. I get to move into a nicer apartment closer to the store I will probably get assigned to when I get back home. :D

Decent hotel with real room service, huge HD LCD, and wireless internet.

So, yeah, I starting to see relief headed my way.

any [blank] you can walk away from…

Quite possibly the shortest… most perfunctory visit I’ve ever had.

He was at my store for less than 4 hours. I didn’t get anything out of it that I wanted. Minimal acknowledgment of the improvemnt of the store. No personal professional admonitions.

Three candidates for store manager are being flown to see our Regional Manager. If I am lucky, we are now looking at approximately 6 weeks more of commuting between SA and EP.

Techno Lust

Very cool… also very unnerving
